Inside the traditional signal box at Settle
Inside the traditional signal box at Settle

On Thursday 7th November 2019 I made a trip to Settle. Why? To take photos from inside the signal box at Settle station.

I set off from our shop in Nelson to the railway station, and caught the 1216 train to Preston. At Preston I then changed onto one of Northerns fantastic new Class 195 units and headed upto Lancaster.

I had a 45 minute wait at Lancaster for my train to Giggleswick, so had a bit of time just photographing the every day rail scene, or so I thought! Very soon after arriving, another brand new train approached, this time one of Transpennine Express’ new Class 397 units – a truly stunning looking unit!

After this, nothing much exciting happened. My train eventually arrived, formed of a 3 car Class 144 pacer unit. I boarded the train, which left a few minutes late and we ambled along first up the West Coast Main Line, before diverging off at Carnforth and heading along the traditional joined track over towards to moors of the Yorkshire Dales. We arrived at my destination, Giggleswick just a couple of minutes late and I made the mile and half walk over to Settle and to the box.

Why do you want photos from inside a signal box, I hear you ask. Well, we’ve got a fantastic new project in development – we’ll be creating our very own  YouTube channel! Keep an eye out on here for more exciting developments occurring!
